I am an Assistant Professor in the Graduate Program in Clinical and Counseling Psychology at The William Paterson University. In my courses, I enjoy teaching about theory, research, and therapeutic interventions in relation to couples and families (Couple and Family Therapy; Love 101: How to Build Romantic Relationships that Last; Introduction to Counseling and Psychotherapy). I also serve in executive leadership for APA’s Division 43: Society for Couple and Family Psychology, the leading national organization for couple and family psychologists.

My clinical training emphasized evidence-based therapy working with adolescents, young adults/college students, adults in transition, couples, and families. I completed my postdoctoral fellowship at The Family Institute at Northwestern University, where I received advanced training and research in couple and family therapy, and supervised graduate students’ clinical work.

Therapy Style

I have nearly 15 years of clinical experience providing therapeutic services to individuals, couples, families, and groups. A specialist in multicultural counseling, and racial-ethnic socialization, I seek to listen compassionately to various perspectives, and am sensitive to issues of culture, class, sexual orientation, gender, and religious background. My approach to therapeutic treatment integrates person-centered, family/systems-based, behavioral, and emotion-focused techniques rooted in a multicultural framework. This eclectic, strengths-based, adaptive model provides an open and safe space, and fosters deeper understanding and respect for the unique perspectives and contexts of the clients, couples, and families with whom I work with.

My clinical work and training have featured the integration of multiculturalism and social justice in theory, research, and practice. I have extensive training and experience utilizing Integrative Systemic Therapy, Emotion-Focused therapy (EFT), and Gottman Couple therapy. I was also trained in Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT) as a predoctoral American Psychologically Association Minority Fellow and Mental Health Policy intern for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
